Healing Begins with Understanding - Workshop Recap
Throughout Mental Health Awareness Month, Parkers Hope for Mental Wellness partnered with Just the Beginning Women's Reentry Program to provide something every person deserves: a safe place to understand their story and begin writing a new one.
Over four weeks, participants gathered twice each week for an eight-session workshop series, Understanding Trauma & Building Healthy Communities, where conversations moved beyond simply discussing mental health. Together, they explored how trauma affects relationships, emotions, families, finances, and everyday decision-making, while learning practical tools to build healthier lives and stronger communities.
What made the series remarkable wasn't simply the curriculum. It was the willingness of women to be vulnerable, support one another, and recognize that healing doesn't happen in isolation.
As trust grew, so did confidence. Participants reflected on emotional patterns that had shaped their lives for years, discovered healthier coping strategies, and began to see themselves through a different lens. Many shared that the experience helped them better understand both their past and their future.
One participant summarized the journey in just five words:
“My pain is my Purpose.”
Others spoke about learning to work through difficult emotions, recognizing the effects of trauma on addiction and relationships, and finding hope that lasting change is possible.
The impact extended beyond personal stories. Every participant completed both the pre- and post-workshop assessments, with 100% reporting increased emotional awareness, a stronger understanding of trauma and mental wellness, and greater recognition of how generational experiences influence present-day behaviors. Every participant also rated the workshop as helpful or very helpful.
These outcomes reinforce what Parkers Hope has long believed: when people are given the knowledge, support, and space to heal, transformation follows.
We are grateful to Just the Beginning for partnering with us to invest in women rebuilding their lives. Together, we are creating healthier individuals, stronger families, and more resilient communities, one conversation at a time.
